Inspiration through nature

Big Fish Ventures provides creative development for children, families and communities. Through its activities the company seeks to inspire personal and community growth and change. Formally known as The Big Fish Theatre Company, Big Fish Ventures was founded in 1997 by Kate Holdom and Alex Cooke. Until 2008, Big Fish was based in London where it provided innovative and educational theatre and arts based projects reaching in excess of 10,000 people each year. Working with schools, pupil referral units, youth offending teams, secure units, youth and social services, Big Fish prioritise work with and for young people and families from disadvantaged and hard to reach communities. To this end, we work strategically with a range of statutory bodies to ensure that we reach those most in need. We are funded by local authority health, education and welfare services, charitable trusts and foundations. The charity has now received nine consecutive years of lottery funding for long term social impact projects and whilst in London benefitted from long term service level agreements with Local authority services.

In 2008 Big Fish Ventures set up a CIC (Community Interest Company) called Little Fish which now continues and develops the good work of Big Fish in London. Big Fish is now based in Cornwall where founding member Kate Holdom is leading its development in the Southwest of England.

I can not speak highly enough of the Big Fish. They have been coming to the Howbury Centre for over six years and with every project they do I am amazed. They know how to connect with the kids and really challenge them.

Our classes were totally absorbed by the show and the workshops - they worked through a break without stopping. That’s unprecedented!

Big Fish work strenuously to ensure their programmes of work offer a holistic engagement with a range of vital social, health and education issues. They are a very brave company and approach areas of work that others shy away from.
